Counter-Strike 2 is finally out. It aims to be the prime first-person shooter and therefore will have a large target audience with different skills and knowledge levels. From the pro players down to the people who never played a shooter but heard good things about CS2. That's why there needs to be a handful of game modes that players can play to learn maps and improve their aiming, spray control and game sense at.

Yet, CS2 still misses some of the game modes we loved from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The game is still in working progress, so we can expect some of those to make a return.

All Game Modes For CS2

From Premier to Deathmatch, Counter-Strike 2 has a lot to offer. So let's take a look at all the game modes we know we will get for Counter-Strike 2.

Premier Mode

Premier mode is the main-ranked mode, the pinnacle of CS2 game modes. It features a pick & ban phase for the map voting, so every map in the active pool can be played. The half-time length is 12 rounds, and a game will take you 45 minutes. More on the Premier mode down below.

Classic Competitive

The mode we all know. 5v5 on defusal or hostage maps, select the map(s) you want to play and enjoy the ranked games we all love and hate sometimes. The mode where every dollar counts and every singe hp chipped off the opponent decides on a round win or loss. For CS2, there will be ranks for each map, showing how good you are on one and how bad you are on another.

Wingman

We remain with the last ranked mode, this time not a 5v5 but a 2v2 mode. Smaller maps, all defusal, 20 seconds less time on the clock, half-time at 8 rounds. Wingman games will take around 15 minutes, so if you have a little time to spare, give it a try. Whilst Cobblestone as a 5v5 map is only rumored for CS2, it will hopefully feature as a Wingman map soon.

Classic Casual

Unranked matches will be the way for new players to gain experience in CS2. Learning new maps, weapons, and opponent behavior. No need for financial thinking, there is enough cash to buy every gun you want to try out. No team-blocking or -damage in the 10v10 mode, just shooting at opponents you can see. And a first introduction into the warm and welcoming text- and voice chats of Counter-Strike.

Deathmatch

10 minutes on the clock, free for all or team against team. Kill opponents and you gain points. Whoever has the most points after those 10 minutes, wins. Some weapons give extra points for a certain amount of time. So shoot, warm up your muscles, learn the maps and spray patterns and enjoy hitting heads.

That's it for the game modes we know are in the game right now, let's take a look at game modes that were in CS:GO but aren't in CS2 yet.

Game Modes We Hope To Get For CS2

The following game modes were in CS:GO before and we hope that they will find their way into the game.

Arms Race

Arms Race is one of the War Games. Everyone starts with a weapon, progressing up a ladder and unlocking new weapons. If you kill 2 opponents or get a knife kill on one opponent, you move up the ladder to the next gun. The final step you need to take is to knife someone with the golden knife. The player who does that first, wins. Great mode for new players, since you will play with a handful of different guns, learn to hear footsteps and map layouts.

Demolition

The second one of the War Games we have in CS2 right now. It is Classic Casual but even more casual. Here, you don't even need to buy a gun. You get one for free. Get a kill to receive a new gun in the next round. Get multiple for some grenades. Plant the bomb or defuse it. The first team of 6 to win 6 rounds, wins.

Flying Scoutsman

The third and final War Game is the Flying Scoutsman. As the name suggests, you are equipped with a knife and a Scout (SSG 08). You can jump higher and have less gravity, making this mode really fun to play and explore the maps with. Great mode for starters.

Danger Zone

Danger Zone was Counter-Strike's attempt at a Battle Royale. Decide, where you (or your duo-squad) want to land, loot crates, buy items, kill everyone. The last player/team alive, wins. This mode has some unique items like the shield, ExoJump boots and the bare fists.

Community Server

Technically, not a mode, but it was still a big part of CS:GO. The community servers offered home to plenty of different game modes. Being it surf or movement maps, longjumps practice, retake servers, deathmatch servers and many others. Creative minds could produce a lot of their ideas and create plenty of fun servers.

Workshop Maps

Another community-driven part are the workshop maps. Players could upload their CS:GO maps onto the Steam workshop and people could download and play them. This included surf and movement maps, map specific practice maps, warmup maps, crosshair and viewmodel maps, Wingman or Casual maps. There were a ton of really cool maps on there and I hope we will see them in CS2.

That's it! Enjoy the different game modes. Hopefully, you can learn a lot on your way to the Counter-Strike 2 elite. For more useful guides, make sure to stick around here on EarlyGame.
