CS2: Can You Clear Decals?

In CS:GO, players had the convenience of using a console command to wipe away blood and bullet marks. But can clear your decals in CS2? Well, you can, but only in a very limited way – we show you the commands and what you have to know about the topic in general.

In a game where every singe frame of a player is an information for another player, having full vision is key. In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, walls and floors oftentimes collected some blood and bullet holes over the course of a round. There were some unlucky players that were unable to see their opponent peaking them due to the walls being colored in dark-red.

Clearing decals was the way to avoid this happening. With a key bind, you could just press a button and the walls and floors looked as pretty as at the start of the round. But can you still clear decals in Counter-Strike 2? Valve has prohibited using some consoles and put others behind the sv_cheats 1 section, meaning they are unable to use in online matches. But what about clearing decals?

Clearing Decals in CS2 Is Only Possible Under Private Server Conditions

If you were a heavy user of the "r_cleardecals" command, we have sad news for you. This command hasn't been transferred to Counter-Strike 2. "cl_decal_clear_world" has been removed as well. This means that you can't transfer your key bind script to CS2. But does this mean, that you can't clear decals anymore?

Well, kind of, unfortunately. There are commands removing the even more realistic looking blood of Counter-Strike 2, but these commands can only be used with sv_cheats set on 1. This means you can only execute these commands on private servers and against bots. If you still want to use them for this, these are the commands:

  • cl_removedecals
  • r_csgo_render_decals false
  • r_drawdecals false

Do You Even Need To Clear Decals In Counter-Strike 2?

Valve have brought some amazing visual upgrades to Counter-Strike 2. You can check out this video from Valve themselves, showing the new graphics for CS2:

Agents are much easier to see than in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. But the blood splattering after hitting an opponent also is more violent than it was in CS:GO.

This means that the area of use is still there for the clear decals command. Yet you won't be able to access them on Valve's online servers. At this point in time, it seems highly unlikely, that the command for clearing decals will become available to use for everyone, everywhere.

If you used to clear bloodstains on walls every time you saw them, you should get used to seeing blood. Otherwise, Counter-Strike 2 will offer some tough challenges for you.
