Zelda TotK – Depths And Surface Parallels
We all know that the depths in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom directly mirror the surface. Where there is a mountain on the surface map, there is a valley in the depths. Most of you probably also found out that underneath every shrine of the surface, there is a lightroot in the depths.
FUN FACT: The name of any lightroot is always the exact reverse name of the shrine above
But there are more mysterious parallels between the two worlds. Here is everything you've missed while exploring these unknown realms.
Goddess Statues / Bargainer Statues
Each major spring in Tears of the Kingdom (courage, wisdom, and power spring), as well as major temples like the Hylian Temple of Time, Zonai Temple of Time, and Forgotten Temple, is adorned with a goddess statue. At each of these Goddess Statue locations, you'll find an associated Bargainer Statue in the depths.
Horse Stables / Lynels
While it's not fully confirmed for every horse stable in the game, there is a strong possibility that when exploring the underground area beneath a stable, you may come across a Lynel. So be careful out there!

Trees
This is just a small little fun fact, but it seems like even the majority of trees in the depths are copied from the exact same locations they have on the surface. Little things like these really show that Nintendo fully understood the "work smart - not hard" game.
Zelda's Memorial Stones / Soldier Souls
Scattered across Hyrule, you'll find several memorial stones that were placed there by Princess Zelda's order to honor those who have lost their lives in the great calamity. In the same places underground you will often find stone towers on which the ghosts of fallen soldiers are positioned. These little details in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom are exactly what makes this game so lovable and beautifully designed.

Leviathan Skeleton / Dark Skeleton
The Leviathan skeletons are located right above dark skeletons in the depths.
Pro tip: You'll find the Tunic of the Wild in the Gerudo Dark Skeleton area, which is part of the "Gerudo's Colossal Fossil" side quest.
Cities / Mines
The great abandoned mines are typically located underneath bigger cities. This placement makes sense lore-wise, as these mines were likely built to support the growth and development of the cities above. Sometimes, there is a chance to find one of Link's past outfit pieces in one of those mines.

Lakes and Rivers
Wherever there is an area covered by water on the surface (be it a river or a lake), in the depths, you will not be able to overcome these areas. Rivers, for example, turn into walls that you cannot get past.
