To befriend a dog in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a little bit different from taming a horse. Unfortunately, the dogs can't accompany you on your journeys, although that would be really cool. But you can befriend these furry friends that are usually hanging around the stables, and they will show you their affection with guiding you to some treasures.

How To Feed & Befriend A Dog

Gaining a dog's trust in TotK works just the same as doing so in real life: give them something to eat. Even though some of them sometimes will even eat apples like a horse, they usually prefer meat as a snack. You can give them a drumstick, meat or even prime or gourmet meat – it doesn't matter if it's raw or cooked (like real doggos, they'll eat just about anything).

You'll meet one or two dogs at every stable, and sometimes there is even one hanging around locations connected to the Misko quest. To feed them, just choose whatever piece of meat you want to give your soon-to-be best friend and hold it in your hands as if you're about to cook something. As soon as you drop the meat near the dog, it will circle it, tail wagging, before eating it.

After that the well-known pinkish aura will appear around their head, and they'll at first probably stay with you for a few moments, hoping for more snacks. However, sometimes they'll rush off to find a treasure for you, but in my experience you'll have to give them at least three snacks until the aura isn't just pinkish but accompanied by a little sparkle, meaning the doggo now fully trusts you.

As soon as the dog likes you enough, it will trot off somewhere near the stable to show you a chest or dig something up for you. Or, if you're on the Misko's Cave of Chests quest, lead you to the treasures in the cave. These dogs are not just incredibly cute, but also so well-behaved and well trained. It really is a shame you can't pet them. Or can you?

While you can tame horses or befriend dogs, you don't have these options for Gleeoks. You'll have to fight them.
