The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is even much bigger than most players expected. Not only that there are additional areas in the skies to discover – there's also a gigantic world hidden in the underground, called the Depths.

You'll eventually end up there, either through a questline or simply as a result of your curiosity what might happen if you jump into one of that large miasma holes that can be found on several places in Hyrule.

The Depths offer a whole bunch of mysteries to explore and greatly extend the Zelda universe . But after hours of fighting yourself through that dark haunted place, you might want to see the surface again. But – where's the exit and how can you get there? It turns out that the answer is surprisingly easy.

If you're still running through the darkness in hope to find the exit, save your breath: There is no exit door or gate at all that you could use. Instead, there are two ways to escape from The Depths.

  1. In certain areas, you will find structures that allow you to use the Ascend ability on them. By doing so, you'll find yourself on the surface after a couple of seconds.
  2. The second option is actually a lot easier and will probably be your choice to quickly exit the Depths: Just open your map and use your teleport ability. Yes, just the same one that you're using to port yourself to any Shrine you've discovered or to any skyview tower you've activated.

When exploring the Depths, we recommend focussing on activating as many Lightroots as possible in the first place. Sure, you can also use Brightbloom Seeds to enlighten your surroundings, but considering the enormous size of the underground, enabling the Lightroots is just a lot more comfortable. Plus, it helps you keeping an overview on which areas you haven't yet visited at all.

FUN FACT: The Lightroots are located in exactly the same places as the shrines on the surface. So if you can't find a light root in the depths, just find the closest shrine on the surface map.

There you have it – if you find yourself lost in the Depths, just teleport or ascend. For more help on challenges in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, check out our guides below!
