Each year, players get to predict what the League of Legends World Championship will have in store for them thanks to the pick'ems. So let's check out what pick'ems even is and how you can participate!
Pick'Em is just like what it sounds. You, the players and fans, get to pick the winners. Or well.. try and pick the winners. This is where you get to use your game knowledge of all the different League of Legends regions, the meta and players come together to try and predict what the World Championship will have in store for us.
The Pick'Em is an important part of any League of Legends World Championship, with honor on the line for each and every single person participating in this rite of LoL Worlds' passage. Last year, no one had 100% correct Pick'Ems, will this year be any different?
LoL World Championship: How Does Pick'Em Work?
It's actually extremely easy. You go onto the official LoL Pick'Em website from Riot Games and make your predictions. You're able to switch around your picks until the day of the event, so if you're flip-flopping between JDG, T1 and G2 then you have time to make those key choices.
Play-In Stage Pick'Em
This year we are getting the Play-In Pick'Em once more as well. Players will be able to predict the two teams that make it out of the Play-In stage and into the upcoming Swiss Stage, since Riot is changing up the way the Play-In stage so more best of series are played.
It's important to note that if you pick either Team BDS or Golden Guardians who still have to play the Worlds Qualifying Stage and the one you chose doesn't make it, quickly hurry to fix those Pick'Ems!
- Play-Ins will open October 4, 2023 at 5:00 pm CEST and close October 10 at 9:15 am CEST
Swiss Stage Pick'Em
From October 19-29, the first part of the main event will take place with the Swiss Stage – a brand-new format for LoL fans to enjoy. Here players can choose those teams they believe will go 3-0 in this part of the tournament. Choosing correctly will mean higher points!
- Swiss Stage will be open for picks on October 15 at 5:00 pm CEST and close October 19 at 7:00 am CEST.
Knockout Stage Pick'Em
Now as we know the most exciting part of the tournament is the Knockout Rounds. Here teams will play key games to see whether they can climb the ladder to the Finals, which will be held in Seoul, South Korea this year.
Pick'Em for the Quarterfinals will start on October 30, 2023 at 5:00 pm CET.
- Quarterfinals game 1 will close November 2, 2023 at 9:00 am CET
- Quarterfinals game 2 will close November 3, 2023 at 9:00 am CET
- Quarterfinals game 3 will close November 4, 2023 at 9:00 am CET
- Quarterfinals game 4 will close November 5, 2023 at 9:00 am CET
Pick'Em for the Semifinals will start on November 5, 2023 at 5:00 pm CET.
- Semifinals game 1 will close November 11, 2023 at 9:00 am CET
- Semifinals game 2 will close November 12, 2023 at 9:00 am CET
Pick'Em for the Finals will start on November 12, 2023 at 4:00 pm CET.
- Finals Pick'Em will close on November 19 at 9:00 am CET
How to Sign Up For Pick'Em
All you need to sign up for Pick'Em is a valid Riot Account and Summoner Name to play. So just follow these steps and you'll be able to sign up for Pick'Em with ease – unless you're from Quebec because then apparently it's illegal 🙄
- Go to the LoL Pick'Em website
- Click on the top right to log in to your Riot Account
- Make your Picks
What is the Crystal Ball Pick
The Crystal Ball is back in 2023! Riot have added this feature once more with players needing to answer 20 questions regarding the upcoming League of Legends World Championship. You have to lock in the picks here before the event starts, since the Coin will not be helping you here.
The Crystal Ball predictions will close at 9:15 am CEST on October 10, 2023.
Pick'Em Scoring
Scoring is interesting. The Crystal Ball scores will have a leaderboard of their own, with the right picks earning you points.
For the traditional leaderboard, players can earn 10-points in the Play-In stage by predicting the correct 2 teams,
For the Swiss stage, predicting the correct Quarterfinals teams will earn players 5-points and getting the correct 3-0 teams right will earn a whopping 15-points on top.
The Quarterfinals will earn players 10-points per right prediction, Semifinals will earn 15-points and the grand finals will give players 20-points.
What is The Coin?
The coin is simply there to make the decisions for you, if you're unsure or just don't have time to log in every week to make your pick. The coin will also help those of you out who forget to lock in by picking a random score for a game. If you do get points through the coin, you will earn less points though, so keep that in mind.
