While the first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard faced mixed reactions from the Star Trek community, the third season pleasantly surprised many, bringing back most of the original crew of The Next Generation.

With season 3 having concluded in April 2023, fans have been speculating how the show could continue. Sadly, it looks like Star Trek Picard season 4 is pretty unlikely.

In 2020, Akiva Goldsman, co-creator of Star Trek: Picard, stated that the series was intended to be a three-season show, with season 3 being the final season. The door was left open for a fourth season, but only if CBS, Patrick Stewart, and the world wanted it.

Despite this, the series was confirmed to be ending with season 3 in March 2023 by Jeri Ryan, who played Seven of Nine.

According to Showrunner Terry Matalas, the story still has tremendous potential to unfold further, suggesting that there's room for more even after the current run. However, Stewart expressed his reluctance to make Picard seem like a three-season-long reunion of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Despite this, it seems several cast members would be open to a Star Trek based future project, be it a movie or another series. Even Stewart suggested the possibility of creating a movie once the show has concluded its broadcast.

If another season were to be commissioned, it is unlikely that it would be back on our screens until Summer 2024 at the earliest. But as said: Picard was planned for three seasons, and there is no sign of a change of plans.

In the meantime, fans can rest assured that the third season provides a satisfying conclusion to the series, and legacy characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager may continue to interact with a whole new generation in a "Star Trek: Legacy" show.

It's also possible that a spin-off series will be produced that starts at the moment where Star Trek: Picard season 3 ended. Small spoilers ahead! There is a post credit scene in Picard's last episode "The Next Generation", showing Jack on the Enterprise-G in his room. Q suddenly appears out of nowhere, telling Jack "Young mortal, you have much ahead of you". This clearly indicates that the writers wanted to leave the door open for a possible continuation of the story.
