Spotify is the biggest streaming service for music. The Swedish company uses its power on the music-streaming market and removes free features on a regular basis, so that consumers pay $15 a month.

Free Users Might Miss Out On Spotify Feature Soon

Spotify Free users live a hard life, especially on mobile devices. Tons of ads, song-radios all the time, and an incredible amount of features missing in comparison to the paid-version. A Redditor has now found something on the Spotify app, that left him a little shook.

Blud now they even added lyrics to premium?

Yes, you saw that right. Spotify has removed the song lyrics for free users. The feature was implemented in late 2021 following a partnership with the lyrics-website and app MusixMatch. Following a request from TheVerge, Spotify's co-head of global communications CJ Stanley had the following to say:

At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests, some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning.

Only a mischievous person would now think that Spotify want to take a look at how many people click on the “explore Premium” button, good learning there Spotify.

So, Spotify removes a feature for free users that shows lyrics. There surely must be a workaround...

How To Still Get Lyrics To Your Spotify Songs As A Free User

For some songs on Spotify, there are no lyrics. That's because the lyrics-provider MusixMatch doesn't have them in their data bank. So googling for lyrics is a method that will work in most cases.

For the more popular songs, the lyrics are synchronized with the text sung/rapped in the song itself. If you want to have the same experience as on Spotify, you can download the MusixMatch app for Android or iOS, they provide the same service there.

Another useful app is the lyrics app “Genius”, which also has a ton of songs and ca be linked to the Spotify app on your device. If you play a song on Spotify, that Genius has the lyrics to, they will show this in your news bar. You can click on this notification and you have the lyrics. This method worked well for me the last years.

Another move from Spotify to earn even more money whilst paying the artists (especially the smaller ones) almost nothing. Hooray.
