LoL: Riot Added And Removed Accessibility Options Within A Single Patch – And Players Are Not Happy

Recently, Riot made some welcomed changes to the League of Legends client. But after testing it out for one patch, the team quickly removed the new feature again without a single word.

At the start of the 2023 League of Legends season Riot made a few promises to players, stating that they would add more mid-scope updates to champions in need of updates, while also promising new features like game modes as well.

We've gotten quite a few mid-scope updates this year, and we also received a brand-new game mode, which will also return in December 2023 again. But there was one more promise made and it seems that Riot implemented it for a short time, only to remove it a patch later again.

LoL: New Feature To Client Added And Quickly Removed By Riot

At the start of the 2023 Season, even without a cinematic, Riot promised to add a great accessibility option to the League of Legends client. When they removed support for 32-bit clients, players thought that the LoL client would finally improve.

Riot Meddler and Brightmoon revealed that players would be able to choose the language of their game, as well as the written in-game language as well. This feature was added in the previous patch, with players able to choose any language they wanted for their game.

On the European server this option already exists, but only for a select number of languages spoken within Europe, but the American server had an english-exclusive client, which isn't the most inclusive, especially when you think of how many international students there are all over North America – as well as the native French and Spanish speakers – who would prefer and have an easier time playing in their own language.

It seems that in Patch 13.17, Riot had enabled the language change feature, with one Redditor explaining that their game was automatically changed to Japanese because their entire computer setup is in Japanese. Then, when the newest update came around, everything went back to being English only.

It's most likely that Riot is still testing out the language change feature and added it too early to the live client. Riot will likely add the feature soon. Whether they'll test it on the PBE first will be seen though.
