Modern Warfare 2 Season 5 will introduce a bunch of new content. Next to five new weapons, quite a few new multiplayer maps and crazy new operators, we will also get new game modes. While Gunfight Variants and Big Capture the Flag aren't that surprising, the new mode called "Havoc" sounds pretty interesting.

Let's take a look at how the Havoc game mode in Modern Warfare 2 works.

Modern Warfare 2 Havoc Mode Explained

Havoc is a mode that has been heavily influenced by classic arena-shooters. The main difference to every other multiplayer mode in MW2 is that players don't have access to their perks, field upgrades or killstreaks. Instead, there will be crazy modifiers that get activated throughout a match and will probably cause a lot of chaos.

At the beginning of a match of Havoc players will start with one active modifier and every time a team reaches a multiple of 12 kills (12, 24, 36, 48, 60) another modifier will be activated. The modifiers will stack throughout the match and thus provide a chaotic but fun experience.

According to Activision, there will be a pool of 14 different modifiers, however, we only got more details on five of them so far:

  • Ammo Feeder: Auto reloads a weapon (from stock ammo) upon elimination
  • Boots Off the Ground: Moon gravity. Affects only player jump heights, not thrown equipment or ballistics
  • Flameshot: Flame-tipped Crossbows and Molotovs only. All Loadouts change immediately to this upon modifier activation
  • Hero Landing: Landing from a big drop causes a frag-grenade-like explosion around you
  • Perspective Shift: Everyone swaps to a third-person camera view

The devs also gave an example of how a match could look like after 60 kills:

The modifiers stack as the match progresses, so by the end of a match you could have, for example, a third-person, moon gravity, hero-landing-enabled, auto-reloading flame-tipped Crossbow and Molotovs-only Deathmatch, once one team reaches 60 kills.

Sounds like fun, right? Well, Havoc will definitely not be a great mode to level guns, but it will be a fantastic mode to let off some steam after you got stomped in Rankled Play.
