That NewJeans, one of the hottest musical acts coming out of South Korea, would be performing the 2023 League of Legends World Championship anthem this year is nothing new. A week ahead of the big tournament the song was finally revealed, and it has fans excited.

Worlds 2023 is the highlight of the year for most LoL esports fans and to top it off Riot usually releases an anthem to get everyone excited and hyped. This year the really succeeded with the track "GODS" featuring NewJeans.

LoL Worlds Anthem 2023: All Historic Moments In The Music Video

The anthem this year focuses on one specific player – DPlus Kia's bot laner Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu. Throughout the video, there are specific scenes and moments that have highlighted his long and elustrious esports career, starting with him attending the same high school as the biggest name in League of Legends: Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok – even if they weren't friends back then.

In 2014 Deft was part of the infamous Samsung Blue, which was the best team in the world, only to be kicked out of the World Championship in the sem-finals against their sister team Samsung White. Heo "PawN" Won-seok, who was known as one of the best Jayce players, can be seen in the video.

In 2015 Deft moved to China, joining EDward Gaming and managing to take the Mid-Season Invitational trophy home with him, but losing out at Worlds against Martin "Rekkles" Larsson and Fnatic.

The video then skips ahead to the 2020 League of Legends World Championship, where he plays on DRX once more alongside support Ryu "Keria" Min-seok, only to fall short once more.

The final sequence is the insane run which DRX had in 2022 to get them to the World Championship Finals, with him beating his old team EDG in the semi-finals, as well as the best South Korean team Gen.G, only to face off against his former support, Keria once more, as well as Faker.

The video depicts these key moments which have led to Deft raising the Summoner's Cup in 2022, earning himself the final title still missing.

The song is very different from the 2022 anthem, with a heavier beat and most League of Legends fans have praised it. It's a very new style for the kpop group NewJeans as well who are known for their Y2K aesthetic and sound.

The League of Legends World Championship will kick off on October 10, 2023, with LATAM's Movistar R7 facing off against the PCS's PSG Talon. The games should start at 9 am CEST / 12 am PT.
