Riot Games has gone too far. The entire LoL community is banding together against a potential gacha system that could come as soon as LoL Patch 13.17.
The League of Legends community feels like Riot Games is slowly going crazy with their skin prices. First the 'ultimate' skin that was Soul Fighter Samira and now a potential new gacha system that could be tested as soon as Patch 13.17 drops.
Players could spend hundreds of dollars for a single cosmetic in the game and the LoL community says that this is not right, nor fair for a single skin in a video game like League of Legends.
LoL Community Outraged Over Potential $200 Skin
On August 15, 2023, Riot revealed the new skins coming in LoL Patch 13.17. These skins included four new Cosmic skins for Nunu & Willump, Sion, Nautilus and Bel'Veth, as well as a brand-new cosmic skin for Jhin.
At first the community thought that the mythic chromas will get added into the skin spotlight from Riot, but then it was revealed that this is a brand-new skin by the name of Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin. So far, so good.
Then the leaks off the PBE came and data miner Julex_Gameplays found the flavour text for the Cosmic 2023 Capsules. That's when the drama ensued and all hell broke loose on Twitter and Reddit.

This isn't Genshin Impact guys, this is League of Legends and this sounds an awful lot like a gacha system.
Content creator Keep It Taco also did the math, explaining that to guarantee Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin, players would need to open 30 capsules. If a player truly buys 30 capsules, they would spend up to $200.
Players don't want their skins to be behind crazy gacha paywalls, but instead want to purchase the skin they want with their own money, so many are calling for a boycott for the Cosmic Capsules.
In other regions, Riot has previously implemented gacha systems, but those were only for event specific chromas – hence why Riot China has a lot of unique chroma splash arts. So, will this system start to make it's way to western servers now as well?
