Call of Duty Error Code 20110: Activision Pulls The Plug For Nintendo Wii And DS Games

When starting up a Call of Duty game on your Nintendo Wii or DS and trying to join a multiplayer match, you will now be greeted with Error Code 20110. We can explain why that happens.

Bad news for players of the classic Modern Warfare 3 and various other Call of Duty games on older Nintendo consoles: the multiplayer servers have officially been discontinued as of August 3, 2023. If you try to connect to multiplayer, you will be greeted by an error message featuring Error Code 20110.

According to a statement from Activision, this is happening because the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service has been discontinued. This cuts down any online functionality for the Wii, DS and DSi games. It affects games such as Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops. However, Switch owners may be able to dive back into Call of Duty again soon.

In 2022, Nintendo and Microsoft announced that they made a ten-year deal that brings Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles. Rumors quickly emerged that a new game might be releasing on the Switch too, but the console's low power level compared to the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S is reason to doubt these rumors. Therefore, you would not be wrong to believe that Call of Duty might only release on the rumored Switch successor.

In order to complete the Call of Duty deal with Nintendo, Microsoft will first have to complete the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King. Sometime after that, we will most likely get a Call of Duty announcement about a release on Nintendo hardware. For now, all that is left to do is to mourn the loss of our classic Call of Duty games – while looking forward to whatever is coming next, of course.
