You need some aid from Hirelings in Baldur's Gate 3, but you don't know which one to choose from? This guide will help you make the right decision!

During your start in Baldur's Gate 3 you can find several origin characters who will be able to join your party. But as some of them may eventually leave you entirely (depending on your actions), it's wise to have a plan B.

So it happens that the NPC Withers also offers another completely different option. If you pay a small price of 100 gold (although right at the start this seems like a hell lot of money), you can recruit the help of a Hireling.

If you don't know which one suits you best, here are the five best Hirelings you can get!

Baldur's Gate 3: The 5 Best Hirelings

There is a Hireling for each class in Baldur's Gate 3, and therefore these are by far the best for you to recruit!

5. Maddala Deadeye – Rogue

Having a Rogue in your team is essential, especially if your play style is stealthy, you want to pick-pocket as many people as possible and open every chest without the slightest problem. – trust me, you will need it, otherwise you'll have tons of problems opening anything!

Since Astarion is the Rogue in the team and a rather unique individual with a demanding attitude, some might get annoyed real quick. If you had enough, just swap him out with Maddala, and you're good to go.

4. Eldra Luthrinn – Barbarian

Eldra is a Barbarian, similar to Karlach and a tank and damage-dealer at the same time. If you missed her in your playthrough, or don't like having her in your party at all, you can just pick Eldra and you're fine.

He can withstand any gruesome attack and concentrate the attack of the enemy force on himself. Your ranged fighters will be happy having this little dwarf on their side, as they have the tendency of being a glass-canon.

3. Danton – Druid

To me, it seems Druids are the underdogs in Baldur's Gate 3. But don't you dare underestimate them! They can literally nuke an entire boss fight in a blink of an eye!

With Halsin being a companion joining your ranks late in Act 1 (only if you manage to rescue him), getting Danton early in your party is a wonderful decision!

You can have a lot of versatility during the fights, with different support, defensive and healing spells. But take up the shape of an Owlbear, make him bigger and use "Crushing Flight" is the best thing you can do, trust me!

2. Zenith Feur'sel – Cleric

Actually, position 1 and 2 are both the best Hirelings you can choose from. The only thing the leads to Zenith taking the second place is the fact that there is a counterpart within the origin characters that is a cleric as well.

If Shadowheart leaves your side, Zenith is here for the long run. He's a Light Domain Cleric, which means he's excellent at both supporting and healing. If you struggle to stay healthy in future battles, having a Life Domain Cleric would be even more beneficial.

And let me say this: A Life Domain Cleric is just wonderful. My main character took up this role and I couldn't be prouder of her!

1. Brinna Brightsong – Bard

Bard is one of the few classes that doesn't have a companion connected to it. Making Brinna a valuable asset and giving her the title "Best Hireling". With her being good in almost anything, Brinna is your secret weapon and takes up the role of the support.

With her high stats in Charisma, Dexterity, Constitution and Intelligence she can almost pass everything and give you a lot of options while talking to others. Perfect for anybody who likes to focus on the conversations and have any possible action at their disposal.
